Ingredients

  • 68 slices bacon, chopped
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 carrots, sliced
  • 2 celery stalks, chopped
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 6 cups chicken broth
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp thyme
  • 1 bay leaf

Instructions

1. Cook bacon until crispy and set aside

2. Sauté onion in bacon fat until soft

3. Add garlic and cook briefly

4. Rinse split peas

5. Add all ingredients to slow cooker

6. Pour broth and stir

7. Cook on low for 7–8 hours

8. Remove bay leaf and serve
