Ingredients
Scale
- 8 small Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
- ½ cup unsalted butter
- 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- ½ cup white sugar
- ½ cup packed brown sugar
- ¼ cup water
- 1 (9-inch) double-crust pie pastry, thawed
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
- In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Stir in flour and whisk until it forms a paste.
- Add white sugar, brown sugar, and water. Bring to a gentle boil, then reduce to simmer for 3–4 minutes.
- Place the bottom pie crust into your 9-inch pie dish. Fill with sliced apples, mounded slightly.
- Pour the butter-sugar mixture evenly over the apples.
- Cover with the top crust (lattice or full). Seal the edges and cut slits if using a full crust.
- Brush with egg wash if desired.
- Bake for 15 minutes at 425°F, then reduce to 350°F and bake an additional 35–40 minutes until the crust is golden and filling is bubbly.
- Let cool for at least 2 hours before slicing to allow the filling to set.
Notes
- You can use a mix of apples like Honeycrisp and Granny Smith for added depth of flavor.
- Freeze baked pie for up to 3 months. Thaw in fridge and reheat in oven at 350°F for 15–20 minutes.
