Description
Crispy Nashville hot chicken sandwich packed with bold spice, juicy fried chicken, and buttery heat sauce. Better than takeout and easy to make at home.
Ingredients
4 boneless, skinless chicken thighs
2 cups low-fat buttermilk
2 tablespoons hot sauce
1 tablespoon kosher salt
1 teaspoon black pepper
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon paprika
1 tablespoon brown sugar
2 teaspoons garlic powder
2 teaspoons onion powder
1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
Vegetable oil for frying
4 brioche buns
4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
1 teaspoon cayenne pepper (for sauce)
Pickle slices
Shredded lettuce or coleslaw
Instructions
1. Whisk buttermilk, hot sauce, salt, and pepper in a bowl.
2. Add chicken and marinate for at least 4 hours or overnight.
3. Mix flour, paprika, brown sugar, garlic powder, onion powder, and cayenne.
4. Remove chicken from marinade and dredge in flour mixture.
5. Let coated chicken rest for 10 minutes.
6. Heat oil to 350°F (175°C) in a skillet.
7. Fry chicken 6–8 minutes per side until golden and cooked through.
8. Transfer chicken to a wire rack to drain.
9. Mix melted butter, hot sauce, and cayenne to make spicy sauce.
10. Brush sauce over fried chicken.
11. Toast brioche buns until golden.
12. Assemble sandwich with lettuce, chicken, pickles, and top bun.
13. Serve immediately.
