Description

Crockpot Steak and Potato Bake is an easy hearty family dinner made with tender steak, wholesome potatoes, garlic, herbs, and savory broth. Slow cooked to perfection, this comforting farmhouse-style meal is simple, filling, and full of rich flavor.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 1/2 to 2 pounds beef sirloin or stew steak, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 2 pounds Yukon Gold or russet potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 1 medium yellow onion, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 1/2 cups low-sodium beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon dried rosemary
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt (adjust to taste)
  • Optional:
  • 1 cup sliced carrots
  • 1 cup sliced mushrooms
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • Fresh chopped parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. Pat steak pieces dry and season lightly with salt and pepper.
  2. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Sear steak for 2–3 minutes per side until browned. Remove from heat.
  3. Lightly grease the slow cooker. Add cubed potatoes evenly to the bottom.
  4. Sprinkle diced onion and minced garlic over the potatoes.
  5. Layer the browned steak pieces on top.
  6. Season with thyme, rosemary, smoked paprika, and additional pepper.
  7. Mix beef broth with Worcestershire sauce and pour gently over the ingredients.
  8. Cover and cook on LOW for 7–8 hours or HIGH for 4–5 hours until steak is tender and potatoes are fork-soft.
  9. If using cheese, sprinkle on top during the last 20 minutes of cooking and allow to melt.
  10. Let rest 10 minutes before serving. Garnish with parsley if desired.

Notes

  • For extra richness, stir in 1/4 cup sour cream before serving.
  • For thicker sauce, mix 1 tablespoon cornstarch with 2 tablespoons cold water and stir in during last 30 minutes.
  • Red potatoes may be used for firmer texture.
  • Store leftovers in refrigerator up to 3 days and reheat gently.
  • Pairs well with green salad or steamed vegetables.
